Senate Approves Loaded Guns in National parks
In a surprise move, the Senate has voted in favor of allowing loaded guns, including semi-automatic weapons, in national parks and wildlife refuges.
The House could follow suit as soon as Wednesday.
The measure is included in a popular bill imposing new restrictions on credit card companies. The amendment is in response to a federal judge's ruling that blocked a Bush administration policy allowing guns in national parks and reinstated severe restrictions on guns.
The Obama administration accepted the ruling, saying the Interior Department would review the policy.
The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, which sued to block the Bush policy, calls the Senate vote reckless. The group is calling on President Barack Obama to demand that the gun provision be stripped from the credit card bill.
