Hummer Rescue
We recently found this humming bird stuck to his nest by his foot. The poor guy (or gal) was very distressed and couldn't get loose on his own. To make matters worse some kind of larger black bird was swooping on him and trying to attack. His foot and leg were so tiny and delicate that we had to tease away the nest material carefully.
We finally managed to get him loose and he flew a short distance. There was still too much nest material attached to him for him to fly free so we captured him and removed more material being very careful not to hurt him.
I would have tried for better pictures but our priority was the rescue.
Once we were able to remove most of the nest material from his leg he flew away free and we saw him head to a feeder upstairs. Hopefully he’s OK.
Photos were taken with my Sony DLSR in wide format, so there may be some minor distortion.
