    Police curfew in hartal-affected Eravur

Sri Lanka North. May 25, 2008. (Lankadissent)

An indefinite police curfew is in force in Eravur town since noon today (May 25th) as a general shutdown is being observed there to protest last week's abduction of two Muslim youth reportedly by the Pillayan Group. The situation in the town became tense following attempts by the security authorities and the Pillayan Group to reopen the closed shops and to resume public transportation.

People have reportedly hurled stones at buses that had been forced to ignore the hartal and operate in the town.

As the situation was getting out of hand, the Defence Ministry had ordered that a police curfew be imposed in the area.
