HEY, THE'RE HORSES ON MY MAIN STREET, WHOA

The tiny upstate Village near me is Geneseo, NY. It is one of only a few National Historic Villages in the US. Aside from its remarkable history and architecture, there is lots of "living" history taking place.

Each September on the opening day of the hunt, all the members of the Genesee Valley Hunt and the hounds parade down Main Street.  This video only shows a small portion of the group and of the parade.

Members of the founding family of the valley fought in the Revolutionary War with General Washington. Because of their anti-British sentiment, the huntsmen/women do not wear the traditional British "pinks."  They wear the blue and buff of the Continental Army.

They begin their "parade" at "the Homestead" the ancestral home of one branch of the Wadsworth family and march down Main Street to the grounds of the ancestral home of the other main branch of the Wadsworth family " Hartford House" where the hunt begins.

You have to be up pretty early to catch them - between 7:00 and 7:30 but it is well worth it. It is a small community and as you can see, those watching are engaged in casual conversation with those riding!
