Our Urban Garden - Big Yields from Small Spaces

These pictures show how we are gardening on our small city lot.

We've utilized spaces that are traditionally reserved for ornamental planting and instead planted such things as raspberries, blueberries, mint, lavendar, rhubarb, and sage.

We eliminated the traditional turf in the backyard and instead constructed raised bed gardens and are using the square foot gardening method to grow vegetables and strawberries.

The pictures shown here show our perennial plantings in mid-May.  This is early in our growing season.  We'll try to update the pictures as the season progresses so viewers can track our progress.

Since these were taken, we've added two apple trees and have begun planting our vegetable seeds.  We garden using organic methods and preserve most of our harvest by canning, dehydrating, and freezing.

Last year we canned 74 pints of pickled beets, 16 half pints of canned chili peppers, 38 pints of stewed tomatoes, and 50 pints of tomato sauce - all grown on our tiny lot!
