No respect at 'main street' crosswalk
As retired Hialeah Police Officer Glenn Rice attempts to cross 'main street' in Miami Springs on a Sunday morning, he's surprised that no one yields the right of way to him.
Rice, an advocate for pedestrian safety, reminds drivers that Florida Statute 316.130 requires motorists to stop whenever a pedestrian enters a crosswalk.
In Miami-Dade County, 90 pedestrians were killed and 1,329 were injured in 2006, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
Rice said that he encourages every city to enforce pedestrian safety laws on their 'main streets.'
"Stay tuned as I make another attempt to cross next week," said Rice.
