At least 8 dead, many injured in Dehiwela train blast

At least seven people have been killed and many others injured in a blast inside a passenger train near the Dehiwela Railway Station this afternoon (May 26th).
Speaking to media, an eyewitness said the explosion occurred around 4.50 pm in the fifth compartment of the Panadura-bound office train.
The blast also damaged two more compartments of the train that had left Maradana at 4.25 pm.
Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara said scores of wounded people were rushed to the Colombo South General Hospital at Kalubowila.
CSGH Director Dr. Wilfred Kumarasiri said the hospital was treating 62 injured.
