This iReport is part of an assignment:
Sotomayor's confirmation |
Sotomayor discriminatory statement?
Was Sonia Sotomayor's statement discriminatory? Her statement was not scenario specific as her supporters like to interpret it. If it were simply her embracing her experiences relative to specific cases involving women or hispanics then she should have stated that. Instead the statement was all inclusive for all decisions. Second, she presumes that a latino woman has a richer life than a white male. How is that not discriminatory? We are all prototypes and how can we pass judgement on people we don't even know? Is that the type of person that should be a judge?
Why do these statements not matter to many liberal groups, specifically women groups? Why is the conversation regarding this statement disregarded simply because white men take offense to it? White men didn't make the statement so why should white men have to defend their outrage with the statement?
Thoughts?
