This iReport is part of an assignment:
Pain at the pump |
Why is anyone surprised that oil prices are high?
Peak oil is here, everyone! Get your heads out of the sand, stop sobbing and realize that you are incredibly fortunate. The rise in oil prices (oil is FINITE commodity, people!) was SET IN STONE. If you did not plan for it, you can blame yourself.
When I graduated from college last semester, I spent time scouting out the perfect job - and then I MOVED CLOSE TO IT! Within five miles, actually. This enabled me to commute by bike to work each day, save for inclement weather. I also took care to move within walking distance of the DC metro, thus negating the need to drive anywhere for recreation - eliminates the need for a designated driver as well
People are shocked when they hear about my commute - but its really just common sense. I carelfully planned for the situation, and as a result I save time otherwise spent commuting, get plenty of excercise and know that I am doing my part to stop the destruction of the Earth. So many Americans seem to think long commutes are sustainable, and unfortunately, they cannot seem to see the irresponsibility in these practices. With Bush we have the blind leading the blind, but don't Republicans preach "personal responsibility"?
***EDIT: Okay, I'm done retorting now - I dont think I can reach people who refuse to change and give the future a blind eye. I hope I've inspired some people to look at bike commuting in a different light - I want to see the Earth looking shiny again :D
AAANDDD I want to see more GIRLS AND WOMEN out there on the road!!!!
