New in town? Getting online help |
We met on SomethingAwful.com!
In August 2008, I was planning to move from Cleveland, Ohio to Fayetteville, North Carolina. I had accepted a position as a middle school teacher and I didn't know anyone in the area except for a couple of people. I was a member of the forums on SomethingAwful.com, so I posted in a meetup thread for Fort Bragg hoping that people would contact me. I just wanted to meet some new people and make friends.
The night before I was to leave to make the drive down here, Chris contacted me on instant messenger. He had seen my post, and said he was about to move to Fort Bragg from Fort Hood in Texas. We chatted a little bit online, and then I signed off because I was going to be getting up really early to drive to North Carolina and move into my apartment.
When I got here I was busy with school starting, and a month quickly passed. Then, at the beginning of October, I saw Chris come online again so I IMed him. We talked some more, and a week later we decided to meet for dinner. Well, dinner turned into eating, then going to a coffee shop, then going out for drinks, all in one night! Then next night, he came over to watch movies and we have been together ever since.
That was eight months ago, and we couldn't be happier. His unit will be deploying to Iraq soon, so we will be going through that together.
If it weren't for the internet, I would not have met the love of my life.
