Banning the jilbab/burqu'/burqa in France
"In our country, we cannot accept that women be prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity," Sarkozy
This is what President of France,Sarkozy said in a press meeting on banning the burqu' in France..not in public places like the hijab, but banning the burqu' from the country in general. I don't know if he plans to make it punishable for those who will probally wear it anyway, but I disagree with banning the burqu' just as i disagree with the banning of the hijab from public places. From his own words he uses "prisoners"...Is he not making the muslim women in France prisoners by banning the viel that most have chosen to wear and fight to wear everyday? The burqu' and the hijab have nothing at all to do with imprisonment nor loss of identity..its freedom and identity! Muslims dress a certain way because it's their identity as told in the quran.."'And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things) and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc) and not to show off their adornment except what must (ordinarily) appear thereof, that they should draw their veils over their Juyubihinna.'(S24:31)"
I don't see where the burqu' cuts women off from having a social life either..My mother wear the burqu' to work as a nurse and has friends in this little town that we live in..Like most women in burqu's who have lifes..His opinion of opression is far different from others and instead of telling others what to wear and what not to wear he should focus on his country's dying economy..because how a woman dresses is far less important..especially if it's what she chooses.
