    Last leg in VolvoOceanRace

37,000 nautical miles, done, about about 400 miles to the finish in St Petersburg

Puma rules the start outside of Sandhamn, the fabulous cat with skipper Ken Reed got a beautiful start for the last leg towards St Petersburg. They will sail in on a overall second place after Torben Grails’ Ericsson4 and Tefonica blue will take the third place at the ceremony at Saturday. This is due to that Team Russia are not allowed to re-enter the competition and hence there are not enough points for Telefonica blue to collect in order to even theoretically give Puma a fight for the second place.

At 07.30 the boats left out from Stockholm Racevillage at Skeppsbron, from down and up the boats left to their own team-song and just before Ericsson3 left with a good speed from the crowd waving good bye, Mange, the skipper, told me that they won the longest leg and will take this one, concluding with a smile on his face, that if you win the longest and the shortest leg then you are the best.  Torben Grail at Ericsosn4 is the overall winner but still they are sailing for glory of winning the last leg, he told me just before metallica were loudly herd in the speakers. When they left the harbour Ken Reed at Puma said that it “is nice to see the Ericsson leave among the first boats, as that means that they haven’t done so well” . He do say it with a smile on his face. And add that it s only as the two of them like each other so much that they keep on like this. When Puma won the leg at Sandhamn, Mange said that he will never forgive Ken Reed for steeling his victory.

The fleet with puma in the lead leaves Sweden behind sailing towards Russia.
