Remembering Michael Jackson
One Of The Greatest Entertainers Of All Time!
My first favorite song was, “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”, by The Jackson 5, and according to Wikipedia, it’s the only Holiday album by them. My family had just moved to California about 4 months before the album was released, and I’m not sure how I heard about the song, but I’m guessing I either heard it on the radio, or at a friend’s house. In High School, the album “Off The Wall”, was huge, “Thriller” was released about 4 months after I graduated, and the hits just kept on coming, including “We Are The World”. I’m not sure if this is true, but I think I heard when I younger, he used to practice dancing 7 hours a day, and loved every minute of it........and it showed!
Thursday afternoon, I saw a developing story on the CNN website on my cell phone about Michael Jackson having a cardiac arrest, and was surprised. A little later I was at an Extreme Pizza, and they had the news on, and as I was walking out, I looked up to see if there was any additional information. However, there was no new news........On to my 2nd job I went, and really didn’t think about Michael Jackson again, until I got off work. While waiting for the lightrail (public transportation, above ground), I was talking with a couple of co-workers about Michael Jackson, and none of us was aware that he was no longer alive. I didn’t even check my cell phone for additional information. Closer to home, I stopped by the store, and on my way out, I thought I heard an old Michael Jackson song in a passing car. When I got home, I went to the web, and Michael Jackson was the first headline I saw...................I was shocked, truly surprised!
While I’m writing this, I’ve been playing a few of his songs on Youtube. There’s even a song that came out in the mid 80’s called “Rumors”, by Timex Social Club (some went to the same high school I did-Berkeley High-didn't know personally though-love the song, and others on album too), that references a Michael (In the 80’s someone said they were referencing Michael Jackson in the song.....I don’t know if there’s any truth to that), so I listened to that too!
My condolences to his family, and friends (seems like I’m saying this quite a bit lately)....................................He will be remembered as one of the greatest entertainers of all time!
