Gem Mine Sells Dirt To Make Extra Money
The woman that owns this indoor Gem Mine used to work construction. Now she finds selling dirt can make her money. When the housing market tanked, construction of course slowed to a crawl. Being a carpenter, she built this "water sluiceway" for kids to mine for gems.
"My kids did this when we were on vacation. I wanted to do something for kids and thought I'd make a little selling bags of gravel that contain gems from around the country from places like North Dakota and North Carolina. I've never seen one of these indoors, so I built one. "
Micky now has plans to build more of these for other businesses that entertain children. She has two more commitments from business owners that want one at their location. She says she will just eventually sell the gems and ship them to the other gem mine owners.
"They sell water by the gallon now. Who would have thought that would catch on. You've got to try something before you know if it works. "
She shares profits with the owner of Velocity the owner of the family fun center where her business is located.
"Hey, who knows, maybe I'll have 50 of these going before next year!", she told me.
I thought this was a good example of the American Entrepreneurial spirit.
