Midget to Hit The US Soon

Having already driven a path around three quarters of the world the US is bracing itself for the arrival in the next three weeks of The Midget.

Bridget (The Midget) is a British 1977 MG sports car designed for the genteel lanes and highways of England. This particular one however has already completed a three quarters circumnavigation of the world, surviving a mortar attack in Pakistan, being forced off the road by a Gas Tanker in India, and the worst floods in 30 years in the Northern Territories of Australia. If that was not enough the car’s registration declaring SPY 122X was not overly welcomed by border officials in Iran.

This remarkable car, that is only 3½ inches off the ground, has been over roads that would cause difficulties to some 4x4 off-roaders.

Bridget the Midget currently heading north from Panama on the Pan American Highway is expected to cross from Mexico into Arizona in late July. The journey, including a complete circuit of the Australian continent, will be the first ever to complete a circumnavigation by a solo driver in a British sports car.

Bridget’s driver, Roy Locock, is raising funds for UNICEF as he travels around. As the BBC pointed out before he left England in June 2008, he is not a mechanic, he only speaks one language (English) and he refuses to carry a GPS navigational aid.
