Initially I thought she might be resigning to position herself for a run for higher office.   But she has failed to unify the republican party, and like former president carter will perpetually be a political punchline rather than a thoughful political participant.

Then someone suggested she's resigning over some "scandal", but these seems even LESS likely, since her detractors and the media investigated even the most mundane minutiae about her political and personal life and came up with zilch.

She might be resigning out of compassion so that the political crazies who burned down her church don't continue to target her, her friends and neighbors, and impeded the business of alaska's government, but if that was the case she'd have quit earlier.

One thing I am certain of - the outpouring of hatred and venom over her resignation is a form of catharsis - orgasmic political relief - on the part of liberals, who view her simple messages as unbearably threatening and potentially an attractive alternative to the "higher taxes, more bailouts, america can' t to anything right" agenda they are advancing.

What an inspiring political viewpoint for independence day - some people are so extreme in their political views that they cheer mindlessly whenever they think something bad is happening to free speech and diversity of viewpoints.

And these people want to run the country, lol.
