Bobby Rush, Ambassador of the African American folk music
For more than 50 years blues hall of fame artist has traveled the world educiating young and old alike about African Americans through his music. He is among the last living icons of original 'CHITLIN CIRCUIT" music, that form of musical burlesque that incorporated tongue in cheek humor, sexuality and the blues to entertain and to inform. Rush has been a warrior for civil rights and was awarded the ML King award for his efforts. With his wife Bertha he has a 50 plus year prison ministry which he uses to speak to incarverated youth. Rush was the first blues artist to perform at the foot of the great wall of China(August, 2007). He has been honored by the state of Mississippi with Bobby Rush day, won more than a hundred WC Handy awards and Blues Music Awards, has performed at the Kennedy Center for Bill Clinton and yet he is among the most underecognized, yet most deserving of all of our musical pioneers as a result of his charm, charisma, and genuine love of people. On June 24, 2009 we launched an exhibit at the National Civil Rights museum to honor him. see http://soulfuljourney.net The China Great Wall Society felt compelled to honor him as their ambassador of friendship for 2008. All African Americans should know andd admire this man. http://bobbyrush.net
