Attending the Michael Jackson Memorial - Introduction

This is the first of an ongoing multi-part iReport of Michael Jackson's Memorial event that was held on the morning of July 7th. Since the televised coverage of the event itself was quite good, this series will focus more on the experience of the attendees on the grounds of the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.

As I also have a separate full-time day job, it will take me a few days to sort through the jam-packed memory card from my digital camera to post more pictures from the event.

    Images:

    1. Though Jackson's hearse was followed by media choppers, the arrival of the the golden coffin took the attendees (who were unable to watch the live media reports) by complete surprise.

    2. The Los Angeles Police Department was in full mounted force, with horses in riot helmets.

    3. The sheer presence of televised new media rivaled that of the general attendees of the event.

    4. CNN's own Nicole Lapin reporting from the Staples Center.

    5. Additional giant Michael Jackson banners were provided for all the attendees to sign.

    6. A large collection of roses spell out a heartfelt message.

    7. Attendees trickle into the Staples Center auditorium.
