AIDS Activists Protest in Capitol Rotunda
On July 9th, 2009 HIV/AIDS activists from all over the North East in the U.S. came together in D.C. to stage a protest in the Capitol Rotunda. The protesters chained themselves together and had t-shirts, posters, and a massive banner to call attention to their three major demands. These demands are: to lift the federal ban on clean needle exchange, increase funding to the AIDS Global Fund, and provide money for housing (support HOPWA). This is a video of the protest as it began. 26 people were eventually arrested for unlawful gathering, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace (essentially a noise violation).
