Still driving that gas guzzler? |
From a Metro to V8 and back again
My name is Maurice Alouf. When I graduated high school in 1998 I used my graduation money to buy my first car, a 1998 Chevy Metro. It has a three cylinder engine that gets 50 miles to a gallon. When I first bought the car I could fill up the tank for $12 and I used it to commute to Marshall University over 30 miles away.
Jump ahead ten years and today I am the creative director for Balzout, a t-shirt company. The job has a few perks, and one of those perks is a company car. A Chrysler 300 with a V8 Hemi to be exact. These days I still commute over 30 miles, but as you can guess it is a much more painful experience when filling up.
Fortunately, I still have my Metro. It's getting ready to make a come back in a big way! I just got some electrical work done and it has four new tires. As soon as the Metro gets inspected the Chrysler will stay parked in the company lot and I will be driving in far less comfort, but with more money in my pocket!
