This iReport is part of an assignment:
Remembering Walter Cronkite |
Cousin Walter
I grew up, as with all us baby-boomers, on Walter's news and programs and support of NASA.
But it was slightly different than normal for me. Because he was a cousin on both my father's and my mother's sides of my family.
I always took pride in his achievements. And we always watched his news, his programs, and especially the conventions, not without standing the JFK assasination and the moon landing.
No more needs to be said.....
I cried when I heard the news of his passing (and now as I am writing this) and I am 58 years of age.
WhenI buried my father several years ago, my family could see his wife's burial site and his plot from my father's burial site and my mother's plot...
And later we were privileged to stand where his wife is buried and where he was going to be buried.
Walter was also cousin to General David Howell Petraeus, Commander of the United States Central Command.
Anderson 360 said he would be buried in Missouri - this is not factual.
He will be interred. as was said, next to his wife, at Mount Muncie Cemetery in Lansing Kansas. Mount Muncie Cemetery is where many of my father's & mother's relatives are buried. Most of which are in-sight of his plot.
By the way, this cemetery is just down the street from Fort Leavenworth and near where President Obama's mother grew up.
This is my reflections of what I know of him; unfortunately I never had the opportunity to meet the man, but my parents did.
My mother just told me a story of the far reaching knowledge of Walter Cronkite. My father & mother went to a family funeral and there he was. She recognized him, but didn't speak to him. Then he came up to her and addressed her by name. They had never met
Thanx & God Bless, Stephen Howell, second cousin once removed from Walter Cronkite.
