16 HOMES BUILT IN 6 DAYS FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Habitat For Humanity Of South Hampton Roads, has partnered with the city of Suffolk, Virginia, to build 16 homes in 6 days, for 16 needy families! This is the largest homebuilders blitz ever to take place in southside Hampton Roads, and the largest task by the group for 2008 across the United States. Over a dozen construction crews are on site, and work began early Monday morning, June 2nd, with work expected to be completed Saturday, June 7th 2008, with an opening celebration. One particular woman we spoke to, is a widow and a grandmother of 2, and is moving into one of the Habitat for Humanity homes this Saturday. Each family that is moving into the homes, will be moving in interest free, but has had and is having to do 400 hours of what they call, sweat equity. This is when you work around the community and once you have accumulated the hours, Habitat for Humanity will lease the home over to you. The other thing is, that mortgage on the homes in this new neighborhood, are only expected to be around $600 a month. That is great, considering that in Virginia Beach, the average rent for a 2 bedroom apartment, is $850 a month! Each person interviewed in this report agreed to be on video, and welcomed our visit to cover the story. I plan to follow up on the construction site later this week!
