    1916 – Walter Cronkite born

    1918 – Daylight Savings Time discovered.  Republicans theorize it will advance the cause of communism

    1919 – The first AM radio broadcasts begin.  Rush Limbaugh becomes a featured talk show host

    1920 – Women granted the right to vote, 50 years after blacks.  They vow “never again will we wait”

    1927 – Talking movies invented.  Cronkite cannot afford the cost of a ticket, even though his dad is a dentist

    1928 – The “Kellog Briand” treaty outlaws war for all time

    1931 – The “Star Spangled Banner” made official national anthem.  Fans at ballgames refuse to remove hats

    1934 – Cheeseburger invented.  Bacon cheeseburgers still decades in the future

    1938 – Chamberlain announces “Peace in our time”.  Hitler annexes Austria shortly afterwards

    1942 – The “T shirt” is invented.  Wet T shirt contests follow almost immediately

    1950 – The credit card is invented.   90 days later the first personal bankruptcy case is heard

    1954 – CBS assigns Cronkite to co-host “The morning Show” with a puppet named Charlemagne

    1956 – TV remote control is invented, and obesity soon becomes a national crisis

    1957 – Soviets launch Sputnik.  Republicans blame fluoridation and rock music

    1960 – Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho” released.  Bathtub sales surge

    1967  - Star Trek TV series airs.  Fanboys begin sporting the pointy sideburn look of Captain Kirk

    1969 – Volkswagen magazine ads touting the beetle “floats” are pulled after Ted Kennedy objects

    1969 – Cronkite receives an Emmy for his moon landing coverage.  Astronauts receive nothing

    1970 – Internet Invented.  Internet Porn invented the 5 days later

    1972 – Pocket calculators invented, go on sale for $99.95 - the equivalent of $490.53 today

    1979 – Margaret Thatcher elected Prime Minister of England – declares war on arch enemy Argentina

    1980 – John Lennon assassinated, but the Pope and Reagan survive

    1981 – Cronkite forced into retirement by CBS management.  He rails publicly,and often, against Andy Rooney who continues on 60 minutes even past the age of one hundred

    1985 – Cronkite named “Newton Minnow Visiting Professor of Communications” at Northwestern University

    1994 – Lorena Bobbit makes the cruelest cut of all.  Sleeping pill sales fall dramatically

    1998 – Viagra invented. Bob Dole signs on as spokesperson

    2000 – Al Gore takes credit for inventing the internet, mistakenly assuming all the real inventors have died

    2008 – Obama wins presidency after promising “talking with anyone, without preconditions, will eliminate war”

    2009 – Walter Cronkite passes away
