Top 10 political terms which should be banned
10 – “Earmarks” – for the purposes of truth in advertising, we should label “earmarks” as they actually are: “kickbacks to contributors in my state or district”
9 – “Change” – Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and now Barack Obama all ran on the basis of “change” and their outsider status. Did any of this prove to be true, or was it always partisan politics like before?
8 – “Filibuster” – filibusters seem to be just fine when democrats want to block a republican nominee, but any sort of questioning by republicans is seen as a demonic delay of the democratic agenda. Let’s outlaw filibusters entirely then, okay?
7 – “Patriot” – it was unpatriotic to oppose Bush. Now it’s unpatriotic to oppose Obama. I believe its un-American to impugn the patriotism of those who dissent with particular policies. Dissent is a founding father principle
6 – “Affirmative action” – this concept has outlived its social purpose. Sotomayor might be a weak court nominee, but she didn’t get there through affirmative action. I have issues with many of Obama’s policies, but he wasn’t elected president on an affirmative action vote. Let’s retire this term
5 – “medical marijuana” – no country on earth has a “medical marijuana” law. The American Medical Association resolutely denies that pot has any legitimate medical use. This is just a stalking horse to decriminalize narcotics.
4 – “hate crime” – if I kill a man, is it a hate crime because I’m female? How about if I scream “you male bastard” as I shoot him? If I scream “you christian male bastard”? Why do I up the ante on the years in jail, or the voltage in the electric chair, the more adjectives I add? Isn’t this in conflict with “equal justice under the law”?
3 – “the time for debate is over” – this is a code word for “you have great points, and they scare me, so I’m going to try and use stealth means to censor you”
2 – “socialist” – obama is no more of a socialist than Pelosi or Reid. They’re not good at math, and view taxpayers as uncomplaining sheep to be shorn, but they’re not actually socialists. Its simply name calling
1 – “neocon” – this is another example of simply name calling. If you scream “neocon” you can get unthinking nods from people are so dimwitted they believe that because they disagree with someone on ONE issue, they will disagree on ALL issues.
