This iReport is part of an assignment:
Who should be McCain's running mate? |
Kansas to swing blue in November
Kathleen Sebelius (D), Governor of Kansans, should and likely will be the VP nomination for the Barack Obama campaign.
Sebelius has successfully won two terms as Governer in the conservative state of Kansas. She is tough on crime and has a great record against global warming. She used her veto early in 2008 to oppose the construction of new coal plants that would further harm the environment of Kansas. She did so with strong opposition from both Republicans but also investors. Despite this, she remained strong and showed the tenacity needed in a national leader.
She's also a woman, which will help Obama with those who remain sore over Hillary Clinton's loss. And, Obama won't catch flack for chosing her over Hillary. Why? Because Sebelius does not represent Washington the way Hillary does. SHe has a TON of experience, being elected to the state representative in 1983 and continuing her service through her governorship.
For her second term, she took her former GOP rival (who switched to Democrat for the election) as her running mate for Lt. Governor, illustrating her ability to work across the aisle.
Finally, her elevation to VP nominee would bring Kansas (and possibly neighboring states like Nebraska) into play during the general election.
Sebelius, like Obama, would bring a breath of fresh air to the Washington scene! Go Obama/Sebelius
