Black in America |
prejudism in work place
After working for a fortune 500 auto sales company called autonation for 9 years i was force to quit . i started with the company since 2000 in the sales department . i was one of the top salesman , made myself a lot of money and made the company a lot of money . Originally im from Senegal (west africa) and i speak 3 different languages(english, french and my native language ouolof) . After 4 years of sales experience within the company , i decided to apply for a finance manager position which i was sent to school for . When my test came back from finance school , i passed the test so i tought i will be getting the position . then i was call in the finance director for my review and he told me that i passed the test but he cant give me the position because i have an accent . so i was like how am i able to sell cars then ? if im able to sell a customer a car i should be able to sell them warranties and other products but i figured That was an excuse not to give me position . Then i was always told for 3 years that i will be the next one in line for the finance manager position, which never happened . After seeing a lot of whites get the position instead of me i decided to apply for a sales manager position that was available so i talked to my General manager about the position and i was denied instead he gave it to his childhood friend that just started in the business . So i was like ok im not gonna be a manager within the company , im on commission so i will work harder so i can make more money than the managers .Even though the economy is bab i was making 8 to $ 10000 a month when the managers were making 4 to 5000 .Not happy about that they decided to cut my pay thats when i decided to quit . this is my story and it hurts me to see that qualified black people cannot be managers in the corporate world . it remindes of slavery ,white people on top and blacks on the bottom doing the dirty work .Black in america is a very good topic cause all its doing is making me stronger .by the way im starting a new job tomorrow with earnhardt nissan after working for autonation ( brown and brown chevrolet) for 9 years . i file a complaint with autonation but they didnt contact me .
