Cash for clunkers ending |
Clunker for 2009 Green Car of the Year
We took Uncle Sam up on his offer, and went from way clunky and guzzly to uber-green: a 2000 Isuzu Trooper (which registered at 15 mpg on cars.gov = $4500) for a 2009 Jetta Sportwagen TDI. With two children, lots of extra stuff and a drive to save the planet, it fit our needs to a tee; all without sacrificing gas mileage and the environment (and without having to pay that nutty premium on a hybrid). It gets 31 mpg in the city, 40 on the highway (word on the street is that if you drive it right, it can get in the 50's). The sedan version holds the world record (58.82 mpg averaged over 9400 miles)...this is a great little car.
Cheers to Volkswagen, Diesels and the '09 Green Car of the Year (oh, and Uncle Sam
