Machu Beachu and other Sandy Things

Not Machu Pichu, Peru, but Machu Beachu, Long Island.
Amagansett, almost as far as New York State bolts into the Atlantic Ocean (Montauk is it), held its 18th Annual Sandcastle Contest on Saturday, August 1st on Atlantic Beach.
Here are some of my favorites.
1 and 2- Machu Beachu- A painstaking recreation of Machu Pichu, Peru, mountain and all. Three hours of intense labor for Clark and Walter Hamilton with the help of Paul Hamilton, Carrie and Jackson Clark, Peter and Natasha Strugatz and Javier Vera-Abassi.
The Hamiltons visited Peru last year and even had a  resin model souvenir of the site and pictures to use as a reference.
3-A man sculpting some sandy sea creatures, right by the sea and the sand.
4-The Great Wall of China comes to Long Island.
5-King Kong and the Manhattan sandline.
6-Happy Birthday! A sandy cake with beach sticks as candles.
7-This one is called Atlantic Beach Babe Reads Twilight- a sand sculpture of a woman on her back reading Twilight (book also made of sand) by The Principi Family girls. They were having a blast.
8-A recreation of a volcano, lava flow made of seaweed, destroying a village- based on the sand builder's own experience while traveling in the Philipines. Note the detail of the structures.
9-A sand woman on the beach, being molded...and
    10-Washed away.
Like most everything in life, nothing lasts forever. But the memories remain.
From Amagansett, Long Island and the wild Atlantic Ocean.
