This iReport is part of an assignment:
History in the making |
A new day!
As I was watching the nomination unfold, I was overwhelmed with so many emotions. On one hand, I was completely overwhelmed with joy and hope. On the other hand, I realized that I am forever deeply indebted to Barack Obama, as I now realize the sacrifice he is making.
My grandfather died in 2003; I truly wish he could have lived to see this. He was born in the 20s in deep south Alabama and probably never dreamed that a black man would have the chance to run this country. Black people have had the feelings that "We can build this country on our backs as slaves, but can't run it." Now, it's a new day. We have that opportunity.
I think of what it means for my cousins, my brothers, my stepson, my nephews. It means that now they have a completely new dream to shoot for--to be president.
