Interactive Work of Art Allows Fans to Play a Role in Pop Star’s Legacy
Celebrity artist David Ilan, with 250,000 fans, will begin a Pointillism work of art of Michael Jackson in what is being dubbed the largest tirbute in the world to the King of Pop in terms of worldwide reach and number of participants.
David Ilan’s drawings are created using only dots, a technique called pointillism. Millions of hand-drawn dots come together on canvas to form the image of Michael Jackson. Two years ago, he created the idea to associate each dot in the drawings with a real person.
Celebrities who have taken part in Ilan’s past “dot drawings” include Scarlett Johansson, David Beckham, Vanessa Williams and Maria Shriver.
In less than two weeks following the announcement of The Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait, fans from more than 120 countries have signed up to take part. Fans worldwide are being invited to become part of Jackson's legacy by getting a Free dot in his portrait in their name. One dot = one fan.
Michael Jackson broke through barriers and touched the hearts of millions with his music. He was the King of Pop and great Humanitarian. Through this interactive work of art, fans hope to continue to connect with their idol and make a change. Signing up to become a dot is a way for his fans to not only pay tribute to their idol, but be part of the tribute themselves.
