Home Town Heros Honored by Fireman's Fund & Papa John's
KEY LARGO VOLUNTEER FIRE RESCUE DEPARTMENT
TO RECEIVE CRITICAL RESCUE EQUIPMENT
Grant to Purchase Tools to Support Special Response Team for Vehicle Extrications
KEY LARGO, Fla. (August 3, 2009) – The slumping economy has left no fire department untouched across the country. But thanks to a $10,000 grant, the Key Largo Volunteer Fire Rescue Department will be able to purchase new hydraulic extrication equipment and a trailer to house the new gear. The equipment will allow the department to continue its long history of state-of-the art training in vehicle extrication response techniques, and enhance its ability to provide the highest level of emergency response to the residents and visitors in the community.
The donation is being awarded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and Papa John’s Risk Services Corporation. The new equipment will enhance the ability of the department’s special response team to respond and train firefighters in state-of-the-art techniques in vehicle extrication. The department responds to over 500 emergency incidents per year, with the majority involving motor vehicle accidents in the area. Keith Krueger of the local Papa John’s franchise, Paradise Pizza, Inc., helped identify this specific community need in Key Largo.
"Due to budgetary constraints we have been challenged to secure new equipment, and this grant will allow us to continue our high level of service to the community," said Fire Chief Sergio Garcia.
"The new equipment will allow us to respond more effectively to emergencies, and ultimately help keep our community safer."
Chief Garcia, Key Largo firefighters and executives from Papa John’s Risk Services and Fireman’s Fund will come together for a special event where the grant will be presented and a discussion of the new equipment will be on display:
