    Campaign 2008

    More from ChicagoDP

    A confused electorate?

First, let me congratulate the Obama campaign for winning the nomination.  What a great day for our country.

Now, however, I need to express my bewilderment at our electorate.  It continues to amaze me at the complete lack of understanding and desire to seek the truth when it comes to those who will run our country.

To begin, it was clear that Al Gore was more qualified to run the country over GWB; some of us said it and were criticized, but we can all see it now.  Let's not elect someone because we could have a drink with him/her.

About this Democratic nomination process: From the beginning, John Edwards claimed to be the messiah of the middle-class worker.  This assertion from a man who makes 6+ figures and voted FOR the bankruptcy bill; a bill that hurt lower and middle-class families and helped the legal world and corporations.  I think he was asked about it once during all of the debates.  And, he got away with the simple dodging answer of "I regret that vote."  What a cop out.  Yet the press continued to push and the people continued to believe Edwards was so close to the people.

Hillary took off where Edwards left off.  She put her nose up in the air at most of the first debates because she thought this was her nomination.  As Obama was on her tails, she began claiming she was for the middle-class and workers; we heard the exit polls showing she was very strong with middle-class people.  Again, this coming from a woman who makes 6+ figures and is in the Senate, taking obscene amounts of money from lobbyists.

And then there's Barack:  a man from a low to middle-class broken family; a man who went to school thanks to government aid; a man who obtained a law degree but has spent his time in the poorest areas of Chicago (and I live in Chicago, I know) to better the lives of others.  His wife works at a university and their combined income was below the 6 figure mark.

To claim he's an elitist or somehow out of touch with middle-class people couldn't be more wrong.  It's about as crazy as Terry McAuliffe introducing Hillary as the next president this morning.

Wake up America!  Do a little research or turn on something other than the typical TV stations.  Find out who is going to be running your country.  And stop worrying about whether or not a candidate is going to wear a pin, resembling a high school pupil in love with his/her favorite rock band.
