Obama's declining approval in the second 100 days

    Overall a B+

The second hundred days of Obama has proved his skills and temperament in killing a fly. Obama's second 100 days seem to indicate his declining popularity especially amongst the Independents who are deficit centric and find the spending without any matching spending cuts a recipe for disaster. Although, the summer of discontent is mostly against his wall street boys. The economy is artificially propped up  house of cards that could tumble any day. The stock market is on the rise and if the rise continues, Obama will have put the worst days behind.   The cash for clunkers may have resulted in putting several clunkers off the road and boosting car sales but a corresponding spending cut would have been most welcome. Lip service to small businesses and innovation continues to be just that. No money just talk. A universal health care program will be welcome. But if it is an attempt to reengineer health care for the whole country it will meet with crippling opposition. Instead it would be much more efficient to begin to have a government run health care program for the uninsured, with a focus on trying to keep people healthy and preventing disease than on doing everything exclusively and humanly possible to deal with the sick. Swine flu came to North America first and has reached every nook and corner of the world. Is anyone taking responsibility for this unwanted infectious export? or are we prepared for a more serious pandemic. I am afraid the answer to both the questions is NO. Right now it seems the bipartisan party is over. The opposition by the GOP to the historic nomination of Judge Sotomayor to the supreme court by the senate maybe the first salvo. In the area of foreign policy, his speech to the muslim world from Cairo University will remain an Obama classic but the lack of progress on the mideast peace may test the patience once again and may lead to a loss of confidence in the peace process. The escalation of the Afghanistan war with increased troops is a gamble. The drones are doing a great job in Pakistan and may have resulted in the beheading of the Taliban leadership in Pakistan. Obama's cool response to North Korea's rockets was very much what it deserved. On the whole Obama cruised through okay without too much that could have been done differently in hind sight.
