Woodstock: 40 years later |
40 year old memories
Hitchhiked to Woodstock from Chicago.....as we got closer to the concert, the highway was overwhelmed with hitchikers, and I remember the police telling us to hide off the road, and take turns hitchhiking. They didn't know what to do with all of us. The memory that has always stood out the most for myself, was standing in front of Hendrix as he played the National Anthem on Monday morning, after most of the crowd had left, leaving a muddy sea of sleeping bags. Stopped in the local market on the way out and saw all of the excitement on TV....we were stunned, having no idea of the impact that we were having. Had to hitchhike back with no coat or shoes....no ID or money.
Fun to remember.....amazing that it was forty years ago.
