Homeless Holocaust Survivor Wills $100K to School
Hebrew University in Jerusalem says it has received a surprise donation of more than $100,000 from an unexpected benefactor, a New York City woman who survived the Nazi Holocaust and appeared to be destitute.
A homeless Holocaust survivor living on the streets of Manhattan willed the gift to the university upon her death two years ago. Hebrew University's public relations director says the Jewish woman lived out of a shopping cart and had no known relatives.
The director says that when the woman died at the age of 92, it was discovered she had accumulated close to $300,000.
The money will be used to fund scholarships for medical research students.
The university is declining to disclose the benefactor's name.
