Pomaroon River
The Pomaroon River in Guyana, while not for the faint hearted, is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Two 1/4 star hotels and restaurants to match but the people are wonderful and the rain forest one of the few left standing in the world.
This is Arawak territory. Once found throughout the Carabbian and the North Coast of South America, they have dwindled to a few thousand in Guyana and the surrounding nations. These are the first citizens of the New World that Columbus met when he got off the boat. It is worth the trip just to talk with such a great People.
Beautiful but not always safe. As anywhere, not everyone is who they appear to be... Watch your wallet.
