    African perspectives on black America

    More from Cuddlebug

    Young People Wake Up

I am Nigerian, was born and raised there, moved to Canada to go College. Was fortunate enough to play football in the states, where I got a bitter taste of what it meant to be "black". Unfortunately this ideology is in my opinion a false consciousness that is draining the creativity and boundless potential of blacks in North America period.  I have found that African youth who have chosen to come to get a post secondary education in North America have a better understanding of themselves than African-American kids do.

African youth respect their heritage and uphold standards that are rare to find amongst other black kids, in terms of education and social practices.

As founder of Symbolic Messages Productions, these are some of my recent works.

I think it is high time someone within the young generation did something to influence it in a positive direction.

    I "Live to Inspire".

Each picture is part of a collage I created called "Young People Wake Up"

This collage is sold to teachers, and community organizations that mentor kids. It is used to open up discussions around some of the pressing issues facing young people today. Enjoy

    Captions for each picture

    1) You are responsible for your actions.  Not the "white" man or the system. You!

    2) There is a difference between looking rich and being wealthy. 20-25 I believe is the fastest growing demographic filing for bankruptcy.

    3) Condoms are cheaper than raising babies, plus you are protected against STD's.

    4) Dare to earn a living with no strings attached. Fast money comes with a little ball & chain, you either go to jail or get shot.

    5) Is this a win-win or lose-lose situation?

    6) Your true identity lies in your character and values. Black kids need to quit buying into the lies that if they are educated and articulate they are "white washed"

    7) You are what you eat, read, think and talk about. You can choose to be more.
