This iReport is part of an assignment:
African perspectives on black America |
Love & Peace/Gender Gap
As a Nigerian who has been fortunate through out his life, I cannot help but be moved to share the gift of Love and Peace that I experienced as a child.
A master piece of graphic art I created. It can be interpreted in several ways:
Love and Peace in the world is greater than violence and war.
Without love and peace we will inevitably be at war with one another.
The world is so divided which is leading to all the wars and violence we currently see. We must come together as a global citizens in search of change.
Gender Gap
Black/White/Yellow/Purple..A person is a person, but the Gap between men and women isn't changing and young black men in America are not helping.
I was in a club recently, and a young African-Canadian kid came up to me and said "where are all the sluts at?"
I do not mean to be biased, but with the sort of upbringing I had in Nigeria, that does not fly.
I'm not trying to make us sound perfect, because we are far from it, but everything about hip-hop culture is disrespectful towards women, why? If people see images and listen to words enough, they begin to believe them. So images of women in thongs, dancing on a pole or wearing a skimpy little dress begin to become real and "normal" to these young girls, but what is the long term effect?
BET, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!!
I create Ads, and even though women are in my Ads I don't use them as sex objects. See for yourself at www.symbolicmessages.com and click on the about us page to view our Ads.
