NASA tracks Hurricane Bill from International Space Station

As the International Space Station passed over Hurricane Bill, astronauts used the stations external cameras to capture spectacular views of the Category 1 hurricane.

As of 11 p.m. EDT, Hurricane Bill was located about 115 miles west-northwest of Cape Race, Newfoundland.

The battering waves that have impacted parts of the U.S. East Coast continue to subside, but dangerous rip currents are still possible all along the East Coast into Monday. The greatest risk of rip currents on Monday from Bill's residual swells will be along portions of the New England Coast as well as North Carolina's Outer Banks.

Maximum winds are at 75 mph making it a minimal category 1 hurricane, but the strongest winds are near the center. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 275 miles from the center (mainly to the east), making Bill a large hurricane.

For southeast New England, Bill's rain and wind impacts were fairly minimal. A band of rain from Bill brought some locations 2 to 4". The highest wind gusts reported were 33 mph in Nantucket, 22 mph in Chatham, and 25 mph in Provincetown.

Strong gusty winds and heavy rain are impacting parts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Rain totals of 3 to 5 inches are possible. Winds gusted to 77 mph on Sable Island. Winds will continue to subside overnight over Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect along the Newfoundland Coast from Burgeo eastward around the Avalon Peninsula and northward to Fogo Island. A tropical storm watch remains in effect for the Newfoundland Coast from Parsons Pond to Burgeo on the west and south coast, and from Fogo Island to Harbour Deep on the northeast Coast.
