A special Katrina survivor story
Hi, My name is Beaumont Simmons and it is 4 years ago that changed my life forever. I come from new Orleans and during Katrina my family had to let me go. They took off my collar and fled for their lives. I know they loved me very much but they could not take me with them. Being a Australian cattle,Rottie mix,I am a hardy boy and have wonderful survival skills. I spent the days after the storm wandering around fending for myself. I lived off of grass, slugs and anything slightly edible. I wound up getting heartworm from the multiple mosqito bites . just when I thought I could not feel any worse, these wonderful people from ARF hamptons showed up with a big truck and lots of food. They loaded me and lots of other animals into a crates. Seeing how sick I was, we drove along way to a place called Eadt Hampton Long Island. When we arrived I was very tired and sick. They wisked me away to their medical unit and nursed me back. I suffer from heart and lung damage due to my heart worm. I spent three and a half years at ARF waiting for some family to adopt me. Every time some one took a liking to me,they would hear my story and decide I was too sick and choose another dog. Then on day in May a lovely couple who were grieving from the loss of their old dog, spotted me and asked to take me for a walk. it was love at first sight. Even after they found out how sick I was they took me home. my health has worsened but I know that I will spend the last months of my life in the arms of a loving couple. Ma has become an advocate for my health. I now suffer from pumonary hypertension and must take Viagra. Ma has contacted Pfizer pharmacutical for help with my meds. I don't have long to live but I want my new Orleans family to know I have been tsken csre of by some of the most wonderful people in the world. Thanks to the fine folks at ARF, I had a chance to tell my story and let people know there are loving ,caring , selfless people left in this world. I have been saved three times and now I can live the final months of my life safe and cozy in the arms of the Simmons family of East Hampton. God bless all the people from Katrina. Love Beaumont Simmons
