Journey to change |
Don't Give Down - Give UP! A Loving Miracle!
I am the proud owner of 2 Boxers; Lady is a rescued, adopted female from Wiggle Buttz rescue & Cash, the male; playmates & companions.
One day, I noticed that she was missing from my yard. I got into my car to search for her. As soon as I saw her across the street, I heard the screeching of tires and watched my little lady fly up into the air, come down tumbling and then watched her body slide down the road. I began running towards her, before I could get to her, she got up and ran in flight! She ran in the opposite direction of traffic, as she was confused. She ran so fast, I couldn't keep up with her. I lost sight of her about a mile away. I knew that she was hurt and needed help.
I searched all evening and could not find her. It took my breath away as I had to go home without her that night. She is not an outside dog. I kept getting in my car searching for her every couple of hours. I knew she was lost out there waiting for me to find her.
She has such a grateful heart. Every night before I closed my eyes, she would put her front paws up on my bed; bow her head to be pet. She loves to be touched by me.
A few days later, I put her cage outdoors & placed her favorite rug near the sidewalk. I searched for her, daily, for hours! Every night that she wasn't home, I couldn't sleep! I prayed that God would watch over her, to bring her back home to me, if this was his will.
I made up about 800 flyers and put them at every home in the area. The flyers were place at every place of business within 10 miles. My children, neighbors and the wonderful people from the rescues helped me. The fields around here are swamps & mosquito infested so it was difficult to search for her. The flyers helped enormously. I kept getting phone calls from those who saw her but they were always a day or two late. They gave me hope though and that was what kept me going - HOPE! The people within this community helped me so much by their phone calls. Some people called because they were concerned while others looked for her while they were out walking.
Weeks went by, I couldn't stop looking for her. I could tell that people were beginning to feel sorry for me, as I was still looking for a dog almost a month later.
This one particular day, my friend and I trespassed onto someone property. I unlatched the gate to view this 30 acre parcel. A little bunny jumped in front of my car and decided to chaperone me through the trail. It was unbelievable. My friend laughed, wondering what was up with the bunny! I told her that God was sending me animals to help me. This little bunny would stop every few minutes to look back at me, making sure I was still there. I was led along this particular trail, to an area that basically - was a dead end. I could have walked the rest but the bugs were unbearable.
I knew there was some significance with the bunny. That evening, I looked at an aerial shot of that property for some direction. I noticed that the bunny led me to the back part of a cemetery. I knew of the cemetery, I just didn't know it backed to this parcel. That night, I got on my knees to pray. I didn’t know what to do next and needed direction.
The following day, I went out 5 times searching for her, I even searched during a lightning storm.
I came home crying. I didn't know if she was the lost one or was I?
Why did this dog have to go through this? She was previously rescued from an abusive home. One wrong decision; and look what she has been going through. I actually yelled out and said "God, what is it that I have to do, to bring her back home to me, do I have to forgive myself? I stopped to wonder…. where did those words come from...
A half hour later, I received a phone call, someone wanting to know if I had found my dog yet. She said she saw my dog running about 5 minutes ago. I immediately grabbed her companion, Cash and drove to that cemetery.
Cash only barks at other dogs, never on command.
I got out of my car with Cash on a leash. I yelled for her and then clapped my hands. Cash kept his eyes on me the whole time. After a few times of me doing this, keeping his eyes on me, he would bark a few times and then stop. He waited for me to yell, clap and then he would bark. I was amazed - by how he knew exactly what to do. We worked as a team. Five minutes later, he turned toward that field and pulled me. I didn't know what it was, thinking it could be a coyote so I pulled him back…..
Then, this miracle happened! Lady slowly walked out of this field & stopped. She was soaking wet from the storm. She stood a distance away and just starred at me. When she heard my voice say to her, “OH MY GOD, THERE YOU ARE” she began to wiggle her butt and ran to me! She jumped into my arms and began licking my face. I couldn’t believe that I had her in my arms! I walked around my car 3 times, as in shock. She was in my arms! I kept saying Thank you Jesus….
I immediately took her to the vet. They were shocked that the only thing wrong with her was that she had about 20 ticks on her!
This amazing dog was gone for 28 days! She waited for me. She lived out in the wilderness for 28 long days and 29 scarey nights! She knew I loved her so much that I would never abandon her. She knew my love for her!
When I reflect of this journey, I can only think that this was me and God role playing.
