    Rebuilding the Gulf Coast

    Since Katrina

Today marks four years since the infamous Hurricane Katrina rushed ashore. And turned my home and life upside down. Since Katrina, I have lived in a total of three cities, and have had more addresses than a little bit. I've been to five schools only to obtain a degree from one. Since Katrina, I've found myself doing many things I thought that I would never do, or even thought that I would. Since Katrina, I've learned the true meaning of hard work and determination; and truly learned what does happen to a dream deferred. Since Katrina, I've been in & out a few relationships, but knowing when to hold on & when to let go. I've learned how to maintain healthy and meaningful relationships; and learned the reasons for seasons in our lives. Since Katrina, I delivered a healthy 8 lb, 10 oz bundle of joy--unwed. She has added so much meaning and purpose to my life, and substance & stability. Since Katrina, I've learned nothing in our lives are permanent, but if we have a solid foundation and know in whom we trust, we will have a peace that surpasses all understanding. Since Katrina, I've been mentally evaluated and hospitalized for six days and diagnosed as being bi-polar because I believe the government owes us more than a $10,000 check, which can never replace all of what was truly lost.

Although time heals all wounds, we are still hurting. Our scars are still scabs. Yes, life does go on, but what do we do about the unnumbered and unnamed folks that were washed away. On Monday, August 29th 2005, more than just the levees broke. The beating heart of the Crescent City broke in half. Children looked in the mother's eyes only to find no answers, no comfort. Little boys and girls were put into adult situations, instead of feeling protected, they became vulnerable, and now we hold down the #1 spot as being the MURDER CAPITAL OF THE WORLD! Where do we go from here & what do we do? We don't give up! We must put aside all corruption, and our differences. Although we may not share the same view, we share the same dream to see our city created ANEW!!!
    RIP Katrina
    Gone but never forgotten
