Epipens are like seatbelts
Epipens are like seatbelts... you never know when a nut (pardon the pun) is going to get in your way. You hope that you will never need the security of an epipen, but you don't want to have that one time be your last.
Having to carry epipens & antihistamine are necessary evils to the unnecessary evil of food allergies.
Luckily my son has never had to use an epipen, but we've had some close calls. We are always, always vigilant about foods he eats. Always certain he has his epipen waist belt on. By never straying from these rules from a young age, he has developed a strong sense of how to keep himself safe, and a network of family, friends, and teachers who are a secure safety net around him.
Better to be safe (and inconvenienced), than sorry.
