    Reaction to Obama education speech

    Obama and our kids.

I would like to start off by wishing all those teachers out there the best of luck in this new school year. It's not an easy job and with politics and the H1N1 virus it's only going to be a harder one this year. Any one who thinks teachers have it easy have no idea how challenging your kids can be.  When I sat down to create my latest cartoon I was inspired by the nonsense surrounding the Presidents speach to the kids on their first day back to school. Anyone with an ounce of sanity who was ever a child will recall the chaos that takes place on the first day of school and realize that even if they do show the speach to the kids odds are that our children will use it as an excuse to take a nap, pass notes (text message) to friends that they haven't seen in three months or find a dozen other things to do that will keep them so preoccupied that the speach will bairly register as white noise. Those parents that believe that somehow our children are being indoctrinated into a cult because a President is giving a speach on staying in school and studying hard are listening to talk radio and Fox news far too much AGAIN. Presidents always give encouragement to our children. I believe GW was reading to a class room of children on September 11 2001 and to this day I don't think he was doing anything other than encouraging children to read. When I was a kid I wrote a letter to Nixon because I thought it was a great idea and that the idea of a President (who's political party meant nothing to me at the time.) responding to my note was exciting. Years later when I found out he was a criminal I did not regret the letter writing as I'm sure some kids who sent letters to GW will feel years from now. If you really don't want your kids to ever be exposed to anything in life you disagree with then why are they in school to begin with? Personally I hope my daughter doesn't grow up with some of the views of the world I was raised with. One speach will not destroy your child...... Or maybe it will and I'm part of the conspiracy myself.
