This iReport is part of an assignment:
Reaction to Obama education speech |
Policy of Hypocrisy - Obama's Classroom Speech
My problem isn't so much with the content of Obama's speech that was piped into America's public classrooms, but the venue itself, when put into the context of the Democratic Party's stance on appropriate content in the classroom.
The Democratic Party has worked hard to keep prayer out of public classrooms in the view that it pushes values that the student and his or her parents might not agree with. Whether or not Obama presented any controversial political views in his speech, he still chose to have it presented in the classroom, outside of the parent's sphere of influence, and placed the responsibility on school administrators and teachers themselves. Obama determined that he trusts teachers and public school officials with this message more than he trusts parents. Why doesn't he, or the Democratic Party, trust them in the same way on prayer or religious views?
Political views, views on education, and religion, all reflect personal values and either they're allowed in the classroom or not. Obama and the Democratic Party need to make up their minds and root out their own hypocrisy.
UPDATE: As I've had more time to think about this, I realized it was kind of pointless and my logic was flawed. I'm quite sure President Obama didn't have any sinister motive in addressing the kids whilst in the classroom.
