Artrageous week-end in Wausau arrives!
Story is from last years event. This article was picked up and used last year on CNN.
Artists and art lovers from across the nation have gathered together in Wausau, Wisconsin, to celebrate what AmericanStyle magazine has rated as the top arts festival in the country. Wow! The entire city, from the east side to the west side, is rolling out the red carpet for thousands of visitors. Three independent events collaborated their expertise into this wonderful festival named appropriately “Artrageous”.
My wife and I, who are fortunate to live Wausau, went from one event to the next this morning. Our first stop was to the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. Their internationally known “Birds in Art” exhibition began today. The mood in the air was alive with good spirits and kindness! Months of hard work (and sometimes years) was on display for others to enjoy. Marcia Theel, associate director of the museum, said the event had over 61 artists attend the opening ceremony.
We then drove a short distance to see the “Arts in the Park” at Marathon park. What a bright experience! Every imaginable medium were brought to life. Paintings, carvings, photography, jewelry, and even music were taking their place in this corner of the world. The Wisconsin Valley Art Association really hit the ball out of the park with their event!
We weren’t even close to being done yet though. Downtown was our next destination. The “Wausau Festival of Arts” event had so many of its own unique attractions. Sidewalks were filled with artists talking with people and each other. Music again filled the air and the weather was perfect. We could ask for no better of a day.
