Parker School on the Big Island of Hawaii celebrates Peace Day
September 21, 2009 | Kamuela, Hawaii | Vetting explained
Parker School students celebrate Peace Day by painting a mural on an empty storefront in Waimea town. The top of the mural has the words, "It starts with one" painted across it. Inside of the mural, the students painted Benjamin Franklin's words, "There never was a good war or a bad peace."
The students also worked with Deb Pun Discoe to fold paper cranes to use in the Peace Parade in Honoka'a on the Big Island of Hawaii on Sunday, September 20. "We folded 1000 paper cranes to make a wish. Our wish is for peace in the world," said Discoe.
The mural is located on the empty storefront on Lindsey Road next to Paniolo Country Cafe. It was painted by art students taught by Heidi Buscher Simmersbach.
