Strong earthquakes in South Pacific |
Vanuatu Tsunami time-lapse (NOAA)
Video: Computer model animation of the expanding motion (propagation dynamics) of the tsunami that was triggered on October 8th by a series of magnitude 7+ earthquakes near Vanuatu and the Santa Cruz Islands, re-timed to approximately 1 hour per elapsed second. The magnitude of these waves were significantly smaller than the deadlier Samoa Tsunami that was triggered by an 8.0 earthquake on September 29th.
Still images: The map (#2) and closeup (#3) display the wave amplitude (magnitude) distribution from the forecast model prepared by the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration's Center for Tsunami Research.
The uncropped forecast images and source animation in the original frame rate can be found at the NOAA website.
