This iReport is part of an assignment:
What if we all worked together? |
Landscaping at Oakland
My husband and I joined dozens of other volunteers today at Atlanta's Oakland Cemetery. Oakland is one of the city's oldest graveyards and is home to "Gone With the Wind" author Margaret Mitchell, golfer Bobby Jones, several former mayors and countless Confederate soldiers.
The cemetery is undergoing a major restoration project after it was hit hard by a tornado in 2008. Most of the work is done through volunteers.
We spent more than three hours planting flowers and rosemary and weeding various plots. Oakland is just a short walk from our house, and we figured it would be a nice way to spend the day. We had such an enjoyable time that we plan to pitch in more often in the future!
You can check out another photo from our volunteer day here.
