Heavy Rains Return to Georgia
Just weeks after days long heavy rains left parts of Georgia underwater, heavy rains have returned to the southeast once again.
Throughout the region, the National Weather Service has issued watches and warnings for flooding and flash flooding.
These images are of a waterway on the grounds of the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, located to the east of Atlanta. On a regular day, the stream is slow moving and less than an inch deep. Today - with several inches of rain forecasted - the waterway is moving more violently.
At the time these images were taken, the National Weather Service had a Flood Warning in effect for Athens-Clarke County as one batch of rain (falling heavily since early this morning) was beginning to wrap up. A second wave is expected to hit during the evening rush hour.
I'm not sure if this waterway officially has a name but here is a look at how surrounding waterways are doing (as posted in the National Weather Service bulletin):
